Beaver Dam: 7 Activities to Enjoy Fall

With the crisp air blanketing South East Wisconsin, it’s hard not to think of Fall. Beaver Dam is full of activities everyone in the family will enjoy. Check out this list of our favorite activities to do to enjoy this Fall.

1. Picking Pumpkinspicking pumpkins in beaver dam wisconsin

First, it wouldn’t feel like Fall if pumpkin picking weren’t included in this list. Did you know Wisconsin’s largest pumpkin patch is right outside of Beaver Dam! Waldvogel’s Farm is home to 60 attractions! Including pumpkin picking, corn maze, wagon rides, and even pumpkin launching.

Don’t forget to carve the pumpkins and place them on your porch so your neighbor’s can enjoy them too.

Tip: Save the seeds and bake your own pumpkin seeds!

2. Be a Good Neighbor

Do you have elderly neighbors or a busy family living next door? Lend a helping hand with yard work such as raking leaves or weeding their garden. Encourage your friends and family to helping their own neighbors.

If you don’t have any neighbors, reach out to a church or local business that could use some help. Beaver Dam is full of great people and by helping out makes our community stronger.

3. Pick Some Apples

Another great way to spend a Fall weekend is apple picking. There is nothing better than walking down rows of apples and picking them straight off of the tree.

With a short 20 minute drive from Beaver Dam, you can enjoy picking apples at Tom Dooley Orchards. This orchard grows 20 different kinds of apples for eating and baking. They also offer baked goods and apple cider.

4. Cozy Up To A Fire

There’s nothing better than sipping on a beverage and feeling the warmth of a hot camp fire on a crisp Fall night. Feeling hungry? Get out the pudgy pie makers and bake an Apple-Cinnamon pudgy pie.

Camp fire

Here’s a simple recipe:
  • 1 Tablespoon of Soft butter
  • 2 Slices of bread
  • 1 Small, thinly sliced apple
  • 1 Tablespoon of cinnamon sugar
  1. Spread softened butter on one side of bread, place butter side down in pudgy pie maker. Place sliced apples on bread and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Spread butter on other slice of bread and put on top. Close the pudgy pie maker.
  2. Cook over fire for 4-6 minutes, flipping frequently.
Be sure to check out the City of Beaver Dam’s official website for rules and guidelines to recreational fires.

5. Sip on these Fall Favorites

We’ve all heard of the Pumpkin Spice flavored beverages over the years. How about checking out these other fall favorites instead.

Drinking seasonal beer
If you’re a beer drinker, check out the local breweries in and around Beaver Dam. This time of year you’ll find seasonal brews such as Oktoberfest and hard ciders. Many places have outdoor patios to enjoy these beverages at a safe distance from others.

Not into beer? Fine, find a local cafe offering their own take of the pumpkin spice beverage. Otherwise, make sure to pick up some apple cider from your local grocer, they usually sell local cider.

6. Cook Your Grandma’s Chili Recipe

What pairs well with your seasonal fall beverages? Yea, that’s right your Grandma’s chili. Spend some time learning and cooking the chili that gets passed down each generation.

If your family doesn’t have a chili recipe, start your own! The main ingredients in chili are chili peppers, meat (usually beef), tomatoes and beans. Next, throw in whatever ingredients you want, hot sauce, garlic, etc…

Finally, once you find the right combination of ingredients, write them down. Save them and pass them down to future generations to come.

Also, did you know Beaver Dam has an annual Pepper Festival! Every year they host a Chili cook off, your next chili recipe could be a winner! Unfortunately, they cancelled the cook off due to safety concerns. Check their site for more info.

7. Take a Hike in Beaver Dam

Hiking
Finally, our last activity on our list of ways to enjoy fall in Beaver Dam is hiking. Nothing beats an outdoor walk in the woods or a trail and hearing the sounds of nature and crunching leaves. Plus with the cooler temps, you don’t have to worry about those pesky mosquitoes!

Also, hiking is good exercise and gets you out of the home for a few hours. There are plenty of walking trails in Beaver Dam, check out the official list of parks.
